in African Soil
BY DENGA RADZILANI
South Africa was the first in Africa to host the world
cup and even now it will be the first to host the 2022 Common Wealth
Games.South Africa is competing with other countries across the world. All this
shows development in this country.
The games will take place at Durban in Kwazulu Natal from 18 July to 30
July 2022.It has been said that Moses Madiba Stadium will also be used for some
of the games that are going to be played in Common Wealth Games. The slogan of these
games is “Ready to inspire.”Durban was chosen to host the Common Wealth Games
at the Federation General Assembly in New Zealand. This was announced by the
CGF president Prince Tunku. Durban was the only city still standing when other countries
pulls out due to economy problems.
Many people in South Africa focus more on soccer than any other sports. This
happen because soccer is the only popular sport played in the communities and
public school that people understand better. Some private school plays other sports
even though are still a challenge. South African people don’t know much about
the common wealth games. It will be difficult for many people to be part of
this games compared to the 2010 FIFA World Cup. People who works at sports
department should start to advertise the games that are going to be played
.They should also start campaigns to teach the nation so that they can
participate in these games.
Some of the games that are going to be played are as follows: athletics,
badminton, and boxing, cycling mountain bike, hockey, judo, lawn bowls,
netball, swimming, wrestling, table tennis and other games. Mukona Tshasinde an
actuary student at Wits University these games will contribute in our economy
growth for the coming seven year. Other country will bring their business in
South African and then they will pay tax .The GDP capacitor will go and it will
be good the economy.
Many people are wondering whether these games will create long-term or
short-term jobs but still it’s hard to tell so far. Business people will create
jobs at that specific time even though few might be permanent. “I don’t think
it will create many permanent jobs in South Africa because after the Common
Wealth Games most of the things being offered will be done” said Mukona. South Africa is in crises of load-shedding, high rate of unemployment
and under economy pressure. Hosting this kind of event will boost the country
economic and people will end up being employed. The load-shedding problems can
be solved and sorted out. People from Ethikwini municipality will have a great
chance to be employed because the games are going to take place there.
Durban is perfect to host this event regarding that is have good
infrastructure .People who will participate in swimming will have an advantage
because there is ocean it Durban. Durban is a well classified beautiful place
and next to ocean .All this makes it a perfect city to host a huge event. The Common Wealth Games in other countries are unlikely to start in 18
July. The event will start on birthday of the late former South Africa
president Nelson Mandela. In other way around they might be honouring the
father of the nation madiba. “I think they are honouring Madiba”.The Nelson
Mandela day is a well known dates around the world where everyone remember what
he have done.
There were rumours that South Africa was involved in corruption scandal
to get votes to host the World Cup. People are ready are doubting that even the
Common Wealth Cup are coming in the right way but that might not be true. Checking
all countries that South Africa was competing with it was clear that Durban was
going to win. It’s being said that Durban is a classy city and the country
economic is not that bad even though is not doing well at the moment. Mukona
also said that he think Durban win fair.
South African people are honoured and should be grateful to host big
event like that. The government also invest money to develop youth who want to
be part of the games. The nation should get ready to this great event. This
country will always be of the world history.
